Why We’re Here
Jesus told His followers: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20) This verse provides us as a church with our mission statement: to be disciples and make disciples in the Coopers Edge community.
1. Be Disciples
A disciple is someone who follows another. As a church our first and greatest desire is to know and love Jesus. He is our God and our Saviour. Following Jesus means we want Him to be at the centre of our lives and for all our priorities to stem from that. We want to serve Jesus by living lives that are transformed by His love and make a difference in the community.
2. Make Disciples
If knowing Jesus is the greatest and most essential truth in life, how could we claim to love people and keep that to ourselves? A well-known verse from the Bible tells us that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Our greatest need is to be brought back into a loving relationship with God and we long to see that happen in the lives of those who live in the community.
